My Process:

Each scarf is one of a kind, made with care and intention. I begin by finding each one- searching for natural fibers (rayon and cotton blends) at thrift and consignment stores. After washing in a neutral ph soap, I treat the fabric to make the colors permanent. Next, I dye the scarf with richly colored fiber reactive dyes. They sit with the dye on their surface undisturbed for 24 hours (the hardest part!) before rinsing out the loose dye and another wash with unscented detergent in hot water to set the color. After this process, scarves can be washed in laundry on a gentle cycle with similar colored clothes in cold water. (I’ve never had any dye leach out after this initial wash, but better safe than sorry!) Colors will remain vibrant, even after many washes.
